Although a dormant volcano, Miravalles has earned protective status due to its surrounding tropical vegetation and geological activity: steam spewing fishers, sulfur springs, and bubbling mud pools. An underground reservoir is the site of a geothermal energy plant at Las Hornillas that converts resident steam to electricity. Your family will be able to visit Las Hornillas, which is located at the base of the volcano.

Indulge in the majestic views of Miravalles Volcano while on horseback or hop on a tractor for a short ride. You’ll arrive at the hanging bridges where you will embark on an easy 30-40 minute hike to the waterfall. Afterward, you will head back to see the steaming fumaroles and beauty of the crystal formations of this “Yellowstone of Costa Rica.” This is an opportunity for asking questions and learning about the wildlife within the area.

Then it’s finally time for every kids dream, VOLCANIC MUD BATHS, slather your brother, mother, sister, father, and self with warm volcanic mud that is great for your skin before you tip toe into restorative thermal pools. For a change of scenery, we will then enter the regenerating forest and onto the primary rainforest located along the outskirts of the Arenal Volcano. With a little luck, this 1.5 km (1 mi) trail will provide us with the opportunity to see a wide variety of plants and animals that inhabit the rainforest, like toucans, turkeys, orioles, peccaries,snakes, and monkeys. At the end of the tour our driver will be waiting for us with a delicious snack of tropical fruit, then it’s time to head to Baldi Hot Springs and where you will enjoy the thermal mineral waters for approximately three hours on your own. Afterwards, we will pick you up to take you back to your hotel.
