Arenal Volcano Expedition & Baldí Hot Springs

We begin the tour by heading to the El Silencio Private Reserve, to get as close to the base of the Arenal volcano as possible by vehicle. Next, we will walk approximately 1 kilometer along a volcanic stonepath with a moderate degree of difficulty, until we reach the viewpoint, the closest point to volcano permitted to access. At the viewpoint, our guide will provide relevant information on the formation of the Arenal Volcano, it’s periods of activity, as well as unpublished details of its first eruption in 1968. You can also enjoy the excellent views of the Green Lagoon and Lake Arenal. On the guide’s indication, we will begin our descent along the same trail.

For a change of scenery, we will then enter the regenerating forest and onto the primary rainforest located along the outskirts of the Arenal Volcano. With a little luck, this 1.5 km (1 mi) trail will provide us with the opportunity to see a wide variety of plants and animals that inhabit the rainforest, like toucans, turkeys, orioles, peccaries,snakes, and monkeys. At the end of the tour our driver will be waiting for us with a delicious snack of tropical fruit, then it’s time to head to Baldi Hot Springs and where you will enjoy the thermal mineral waters for approximately three hours on your own. Afterwards, we will pick you up to take you back to your hotel.

This tour is a combination of tours to the Irazu Volcano National Park, Orosi Basilica, Orosi Valley, and Hacienda Orosi Hot Springs. You will experience the impressive view of the volcano, visit sites of the great historical and cultural value of the country and later relax in the hot springs. We take the South Panamerican Highway, to start ascending the large “ Irazu “. The winding road travels through fertile lands cultivated with all kinds of vegetables as we will observe a lovely panoramic view. During our visit to the Doka Coffee Estate, we will take a coffee tour of a real coffee plantation. During this tour, we will learn about the centuries-old methods that the experts use to produce some of the best coffee in Costa Rica and the world. Following a hands-on demonstration of the meticulous Golden Bean cultivation, harvesting, and roasting process, we will savor the delectable product.

After the coffee tour, we’ll continue on to Poas Volcano National Park. There, we’ll have time to admire the impressive main crater with its sulfur fumaroles and hike a trail to the stunning Botos Lagoon while learning about the park’s various ecosystems.

Walking trails will lead us through the lush tropical rainforest at La Paz Waterfall Gardens. We will appreciate the beautiful waterfalls, white-flowing rivers, birds, butterflies, monkeys, and hummingbirds here. Nature enthusiasts of all ages are sure to enjoy this tour.

In Poás Volcano where we will not only admire the impressive main crater with its sulfur fumaroles but also learn about the different ecosystems in this unique and protected national park.

After Poás Volcano you will continue to visit the Doka Coffee Estate. Then we will be treated to a coffee tour in an actual coffee plantation where we will learn the ancient techniques used by the experts to produce some of the best coffee in Costa Rica and around the world. The careful process involved in the cultivation, harvesting, and roasting of the Golden Bean will then be illustrated, very hands-on, and then we will savor the delectable end product.
