]]> Home to world class rapids, Costa Rica doesn’t disappoint when it comes to rafting and neither will the COSTA RICA FOR KIDS Class III-IV rapids of the Río Sarapiquí. Hit the waves with your family members as your paddle together laughing and shouting during this exciting river trip!
Your family will be picked up at your hotel and from there journey a 1.5-hour drive through rural plantations of papaya, pineapple, and yucca that sit at the base of the majestic Arenal Volcano. Fed by waters from Poas Volcano, you will raft 13 km (9 miles) through jungle scenery on your adrenaline-packed ride on continuous white-water rapids of the Sarapiquí River. Rafting time varies between 2.5 and 3 hours depending on daily water flow changes.
Once you reach the “put-in” spot, trained guides will go over the safety procedures and rules to prepare you for your paddling responsibilities. Each family member with be fitted with safety equipment (helmet, life-jacket, paddle). Each family will be given a safety demonstration as a team with their family expert rafting guide. Once you know the rules and show you are familiar with the commands – you are ready to take the plunge. You will push off and start to descend down the river.
The Sarapiquí River winds through spectacular greenery, so between rapids, your family will often be treated to sights and sounds of monkeys, toucans, and other tropical wildlife. At the halfway point you will take a break while your guides prepare some delicious snacks and tropical fruit on the river bank. This is a chance for your family to refuel, surrounded by the serene and majestic beauty of the rainforest. After your snack, it is time to hit the rapids again for more heart-pumping excitement.
At the “take out” spot, you will be greeted with a refreshing beverage and dry towel. Just a short walk down a beautiful pathway you will change into dry clothing and enjoy a delicious, typical Costa Rican lunch, where you can recount the adventure shared by your fellow rafters.
