Carara National Park

Carara National Park welcomes your entire family on this COSTA RICA FOR KIDS tour! Located about 25 minutes from the Jacó area, Carara National Park measures about 4,700 Hectares and is home to approximately 48% of Costa Rica’s aviary species.

This tour is a very bird lovers’ dream and a thrill for families with kids who love to ̈spot the next one ̈, or keep a tally of the birds you see! The location of Carara National Park is important as it is situated in a transitional region between the tropical dry forest and the humid pacific rainforest. This means that your family will see colorful species of flora and fauna that you won’t find anywhere else in the country! Being that this is one of the best places for bird watching in ALL of Costa Rica, your kids will see tropical species such as the Red Scarlet Macaw, Turquoise Browed Motmot, Yellow-Throated Toucan, and more. The sanctuary is populated by many different species of birds and animals, amongst them the white face and howler monkeys, iguanas, toucans, and trogons. This tour is sure to tick the boxes for animals seen on your family vacation! An interesting fact to share with your kids, the name Cararä is an indigenous word meaning river of crocodiles. ̈ The Tacoles River is home to one of the largest crocodile populations in the world per square kilometer. If seeing a crocodile is on your list, you may just have some luck at this National Park.

What families love about this tour! Families love this slow-paced tour that accommodates little legs and entertains kids of all ages! By visiting Carara National Park, your family will see a mix of flora and fauna unique only to this climatological transition point on the Pacific Slope of Costa Rica.
