Hanging Bridges and Tortilla Making with Doña Mara

Immerse your family in the wonders of Costa Rica’s lush tropical jungle and breathtaking volcano views with our Hanging Bridges and Tortilla Making Family Adventure. This unforgettable experience combines an exhilarating hike across hanging suspension bridges with the opportunity to learn the art of tortilla making.

As you step onto the hanging suspension bridges, you’ll traverse the preserved 600 acres of tropical rainforest, crossing 10 regular bridges and 6 hanging suspension bridges. The tallest of these bridges stands at an impressive 148 feet! The hiking trails are suitable for family members of all ages, from toddlers to grandparents. With no steep hills or many steps, this slow-paced hike offers a mesmerizing journey through well-maintained trails and bridges. Every bridge provides a thrilling view from the canopy, offering a bird’s eye perspective of the jungle below.

Throughout the tour, your expert naturalist guide will bring the jungle to life, pointing out incredible species both near and far. Witness monkeys swinging through the trees, colorful toucans flying overhead, and if you’re lucky, catch a glimpse of a sloth up close. Equipped with the finest gear, our family naturalist guides ensure even the youngest members have clear views of animals and birds, making the experience educational and engaging.

What families love about this tour is the expertise of our naturalist guides in creating a fun, safe, and educational environment for kids. There’s ample time for your children to ask questions and engage in hands-on learning experiences with the diverse flora and fauna they encounter.

After an exhilarating hike across the Hanging Bridges and spotting abundant wildlife, your family is sure to work up an appetite. The next stop is Doña Mara’s home, where a warm welcome awaits you along with a refreshing tropical drink made from local pineapple, oranges, and coconut water.

While lunch is being prepared, your family will have the opportunity to learn the traditional art of making tortillas using freshly ground corn “masa.” Guided by Doña Mara, you’ll shape the masa into circles and cook them on her authentic wood-fired stove.

During your visit, feel free to practice your Spanish and immerse yourself in the warm hospitality of Doña Mara and her family. At the “Rancho,” a delicious Costa Rican lunch known as a “casado” awaits your family—a delightful combination of typical dishes, including the tortillas you helped create.

Spending time in the home of Doña Mara and sharing moments with her family offers an enriching and authentic local experience, adding depth to your family’s vacation. This cultural and hands-on tour allows you to create lasting memories and cherish quality time with a Costa Rican “Tico” family.
